Here is what I thought
about Toad The Wet Sprocket's album, “New Constellation.”
Remember all scores are out of a possible 10 points.
“New
Constellation” - This track
is peppy - I like peppy. A nice upbeat tempo with fun vocals. I can tap my toe to
it, but needs some kind of a punch. Score:
8
“California
Wasted” - I like the
mid-tempo of the song and I love the vocals as well. The song just
didn't have anything for me to remember. Its all lovely and dreamy,
but it is also forgettable. Score: 6
“The
Moment” - I really got into
the dark mood of the beginning of this track. The rest of the song
was well done with fresh vocals and memorable instrumentation. Score:
9
“Rare
Bird” - Nothing in this track
really impressed me. I didn't care for the lyrics, the vocals turned
me of – for the first half at least – and the music was just
beige. If I was at a Toad The Wet Sprocket concert this is when I
would go get a hot dog. Score: 2
“I'll
Bet On You” - A solid
pop/rock track. Light and airy melodies and great vocals that come of
as genuine. So much to like about this track. Score: 8
“Golden
Age” - The first ballad of
the album. I was all ready to really get into it and let my emotional
guard down, but this song never really got through to me. Its vocals
and arrangement are lovely, but the lyrics left me
cold. Score: 5
“Get
What You Want” - I found this
track to be lyrically clever. Despite the song sounding juvenile
overall, I do need songs in my life like this to make me not be so
cynical. Score: 7
“Is
There Anyone Out There” - A
really nice easy listening type of track. The lyrics got through to
me as well as the music. Just a nice track overall. Score:
8
“Life
Is Beautiful” - This could
quite possibly be the most laid back track I have every heard. I just
wanted to lie down and take a nap – in a good way. Score:
7
“The
Eye” - I want to call this a
static filler track. It just doesn't go anywhere or do anything. I
didn't hate it, but I didn't really care for it either. Meh. Score:
4
“Enough”
- I just did not get this track
– at all. Maybe I am just not deep enough as a person, but the
vocals left me bored, the music rambled on and went nowhere.
Disappointing to say the least. Score: 2
Average
Track Score: 6.0 Would I
recommend this album to my friends? Probably not.
I was a fan of the band back in the '90's, but I just can't get into
their groove today.
Escalader,
