Here
is what I thought of Anders Osborne's new album, “Peace.”
Remember all scores are out of a possible 10.
“Peace”
- The beginning of this
song was annoying, but then it turned into this blues-y type of
slower number that kind of got through to me. Nice guitar work and
decent lyrics. Score: 7
“47”
- A decent groove that
has some good lyrics. Nicely done. Score:
6
“Let
it Go” - A nice mix of
blues and rock. Nice vocals to boot. Score:
6
“Windows”
- Meh. A mid tempo rocker
that rather bored me. It felt over indulgent and like filler. Score:
4
“Five
Bullets” - A ballsy
rocker that has some kick. Nice vocals and even better beats. Score:
8
“Brush
Up Against Me” - Um,
no. Too crazy, too disjointed. I am all for artistic expression, but
this is just too silly for me. Score:
0
“Sentimental
Times” - Now
we are talking. I am always a sucker for emotional realness.
Heartfelt lyrics and vocals over a plinky plunky guitar make for one
great track. Score:
9
“Dream
Girl” - A
surprise – a light rock kind of love song. Light and airy, the
guitar work takes center stage for a truly enjoyable track. Score:
7
“Sarah
Anne” - I
might like this song if I was strung out on some mind altering drug,
but being sober and all I just didn't care for this rambler. Score:
3
“I'm
Ready” - Another
emotional realness track and an excellent one at that! In this
instance I wish he would have let his guitar wailing go one for much
longer. Tender and delicate lyrics really make this track a standout.
Score: 10
“My
Son” - Awww....I
have no idea if Anders has a son or not, but if he does this is a
beautiful love letter to his son. I wish my dad – the bastard –
had written me a song like this one. Stellar job. This brought a tear
to my eye. Score:
9.
(The na-na's at the end were unnecessary.)
Average
track score: 6.3
A nice collection of songs that are real and have great guitar work.
Would
I buy this album? I probably
would.
Escalader,
Jim
