Here's what I thought
of Scotty McCreery's new album, “See You Tonight.” Remember all
scores are out of a possible 10 points.
“Now”
- A fun upbeat country rocker.
I always like when country singers let it all hang out and not try to
be overly serious. I could easily hear this one on country radio.
Score: 8
“See
You Tonight” - I liked the
tone of Scotty's voice in this track, but the lyrics turned me off.
They came of rather staker-ish. I found myself more than once
thinking, “Creeper!” Plus, I really loathe it when heterosexual men use the term, “Girl.” Score: 4
“Get
Gone With You” - In this love
song, I love the lyrics and the vocals. The lyrics were softer and
more heartfelt. I also thought they were very well thought out. Scotty sold me on this track with his genuine vocals. Score: 8
“Feelin'
It” - Country rap – I am so
not a fan. The lyrics of this track are laughable. The chorus isn't
horrible, but the rest of the track was pretty disappointing. This is
so beneath you Scotty, this should have been left on the editing
floor. Score: 2
“Feel
Good Summer Song” - There is
so much I like about this track. I like the mature tone of the
lyrics. I also like the dark tone of the lyrics. The music fits
the mood perfectly. I have a friend who is going through some
relationship problems right not and this track made me think of him.
To me, when a song you have never heard before can make you identify
it with someone in your inner circle, that is the hallmark of a well
written song. Score: 10
“Buzzin'”
- To me, this track came off as
juvenile. I did not care for Scotty's vocals. The long drawn out words
became annoying. I felt like he was talking to me like I am stupid. I
did appreciate the nifty guitar work. But overall, a filler track.
Score: 3
“Can
You Feel It” - More country
rap. Oh Lord, please let it stop. The main verses are annoying but
the chorus is fun and memorable. A half bad half good kind of song.
Score: 5
“The
Dash” - And I'm screwed –
emotionally. This brilliant track ripped out my heart , stomped all
over it, and made this old hooker cry. This track is crammed full of
beautiful lyrics and amazing vocals. If you listen to this song and
you don't fell something
then you are a heartless bastard. Score: 10
“Blue
Jean Baby” - Another filler
track. Nothing outstanding about this one at all. Easily forgettable
and borderline annoying. Next. Score: 2
“Forget
To Forget You” - An
enjoyable, emotional track. I liked the lyrics and the vocals, but I
really enjoyed the arrangement. Score: 7
“I
Don't Wanna Be Your Friend” - After
thinking about the lyrics in this song, I do find them male
chauvinistic. At first I liked the message, but then I had to put
myself in check and realize that he is just saying he wants this girl
for one thing and one thing only. I was going to ignore it, but
sometimes you just have to take a stand. Plus, any lyrics that
mentions Pintrest has to go. Score: 0
“Carolina
Moon” - Now this I can get on
board with – do more songs like this Scotty. I am ALWAYS a sucker
for emotional realness and this track is crammed full with the stuff.
I loved the arrangement, the lyrics and the vocals. It fires on all
cylinders and is a highlight of the album. Score: 10
“Something
More” - Well thought out
lyrics and a very nice vocal delivery. I found these lyrics to be
clever and emotionally right on target. Very nice track – it made
me feel good. Score: 8
“Roll
Your Window Down” - Filler
track. Nothing great, but nothing atrocious. 100% safe and I detest
safe tracks. Make me feel something but don't bore me – which is
what this track accomplished. Plus, the back up vocals came off sophomoric. Score: 4
“Before
Midnight” - Alright Scotty you
sold me on this one. The vocals and the lyrics grew on me and the
music seemed to get more impressive as the track played. Not one of
my favorites, but a very nice track. Score: 7
“Carolina
Eyes” - Scotty ends the album
with a beautifully written ballad that showcases his fantastic vocal
ability. Nice job Scotty, you had me from the beginning. Score:
9
Average
Track Score: 6.1. Would I
recommend this to my friends? Unsure. While
there are some outstanding tracks on here, there are some serious
clunkers as well. Just because you can put 16 tracks on an album
doesn't mean you should put 16 tracks on an album. I might recommend
an edited down version of this album, but probably not the way is
stands now.
Escalader,
Jim
