Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience
Here is what I think of the new Justin Timberlake album, "The 20/20 Experience" track by track - remember all scores are out of a possible 10.
"Pusher Love Girl" - A painfully needless slow non-jam. Nothing but filler. Crap filler. Not sexy and I would never listen to this song ever again. Score: 0
"Suit & Tie" - Sloppy. Its just a sloppy track. I liked the first half and was interested to see what Jay-Z had to say, but the track as a whole is another miss. But I will give some points for the first half. Score: 3
"Don't Hold the Wall" - Once again, I liked the first 1/3 of the song, but then it went on - and on - and on - and on - and on - for far too long. It felt indulgent and unedited. C'mon Justin, give us something better! Score: 0
"Strawberry Bubblegum" - An 8-minute track Justin? Really? Not only is it way too long, it really isn't that interesting. Shame on you. Score: 4
"Tunnel Vision" - This track was OK for a hot second and then Justin's ego got in the way and it just got fucking stupid. What a waste of time. Score: 1
"Spaceship Coupe" - Just fucking shoot me now. Halfway through I was prepared to give this one a good score, but then here we go again, and Justin adds on about four minutes of useless humming and pointless signing. You aint ever gonna be Prince Justin, so just stop trying. Score: 3
"That Girl" - This slower tune is not completely horrible. But it isn't great either. But listenable, so that is something. Score: 5
"Let the Groove In" - Dance track. Monotonous. Pointless. Annoying. Nuff' Said. Score: 0
"Mirrors" - The first 1/10 of the song could be a hit, but the last 9/10 of it made me want to look for my gun so I could do myself in. For reals - horrible. Score: 0
"Blue Ocean Floor" - O.M.G. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse - it does. I think he said the name of this song like 500 times over some whale sounds. BORING! Score: 0
"Gimme What I Don't Know (I Want)" - Compared to the rest of the tracks on this album, this is the best one so far. That isn't saying much. A somewhat tolerable dance track. Score: 5
"True Blood" - Yet another overbloated, pointless dance track. This is really getting out of hand. Score: 0
I am sure you are asking yourself, "Jim, if you hate this album this much, then why do you go on?" I have to - my OCD and masochist side will not let me stop. I am just looking for SOMETHING positive to say about this album, but so far I have come up empty handed. So I trudge forward....there will be an end to this - I hope.
"Cabaret" - Well, the one positive thing I can say about this track is it is the shortest on the whole album. But that is about it. Nothing good to see here - move along. Score: 1
"TKO" - I was more than prepared to give this track a decent score, but then the beat boxing happened and it all went downhill. I mean really downhill. What a waste. Score: 4
"Take Bake the Night" - Now we are getting into some better territory. Still overly indulgent, the track has some decent beats. Score: 6
"Murder" - This dance track has the most potential to be my favorite track, but then....you know it just went on into oblivion. How sad - decent drum beats and snazzy rapping, but the end was just not necessary. Score: 5
"Drink You Away" - This is just a bullshit track. Annoying organ and stupid guitars add to the level of bullshitery as Justin warbles about not being able to drink someone away. Boring and annoying. Two of my least favorite attributes for a song. Score: 0
"You Got it On" - OK, I will give credit where credit is due. This track does not suck. It is actually pretty decent, comparatively. Nice vocals, nice slow jam beats - overall I kind of dug this track. Well, except for the annoying very end. You will understand if you listen to this track. Score: 6 (!)
"Amnesia" - I was kind of on board for the first 4/5 of this track thinking it was sub-par, but better than most tracks I have heard thus far, but then the stupid prolonged ending pissed me off. I am over this over indulgence. What a waste. Score: 3
"Only When I Walk Away" - For the first five minutes of this song, I was like, "Finally! A track that I can sink my teeth into!" Its hard edged, just is serving attitude and its stripped down drum beats was something that appealed to me. And then the ending of the song went on and on and on and on and on and then took a different direction and went on and on and on and on. Another track done in by the producer's lack of editing. What a shame. Score: 3
"Not a Bad Thing" - Not a bad track - not a bad track at all. I really enjoyed the vocals, the music, and the overall ambiance of this song. Well played Justin - well played. But wait! There was a second hidden track. It really sucks. I am going to call this unnamed hidden track "Fly" seeing how Justin just keeps saying over and over and over that if he had a pair of wings he would scoop you up and fly away. Seriously that is all he says about a billion times. Wasteful and needless - those are the two words I would use for this track. Score: 8 - for the first track Score: 0 - for the hidden track.
Ok, this is going to be a rough one. Average score: 2.6. Wow, I thought it was going to be even lower than that - but the scores never lie. What a waste of a double album. Tough luck Justin, I am goign to rate this album as a DO NOT BUY.
