Here is what I thought of
Lissie's new album “Back To Forever” Remember all scores are out
of a possible 10.
“The
Habit”
- Well smack my ass and call me Mary! Who is Lissie and why has she
not been in my life before? This kick ass rock track got my blood
pumping. She is serving Stevie Nicks and I am loving every moment of
this song. Score:
10
“Further Away (Romance Police)” - Another stellar ass kicking rock and roll track. Her voice is like a drug that I never want to give up. I wonder if this is how the gays back in the 1970's felt the first time they heard Fleetwood Mac. If the rest of the songs on this album are this good, I am going to have to clear some room on my Diva CD shelf. Score: 9

“Shameless”
-
Did I like this song? Parts of it – like the chorus. But overall it
seemed disjointed and odd. Score:
5
“They
All Want You” - Emotional
realness. Songwriter realness. This song cut right through to my
heart. Score:
10
“Sleepwalking”
- Fresh
pop sounds and lyrics. Bubbly. Somewhat forgettable, but I did like
how it moved. Score:
7
“I
Don't Want To Go To Work” - A
bitchy song about not wanting to go to work. Oh honey, we have all
been there, but I do appreciate your lyrics very much. Score:
8
“Mountaintop
Removal” - This
song went in a few directions. Was it patriotic? I am not really
sure. I liked the epic nature of the music and I am always a sucker
for emotional realness, but I just wasn't able to get fully on board
with this one. Score:
5
“What
Its Like” - A
solid pop/rock type of song. Nothing outstanding but nothing
horrible. Score:
6
“Love
In The City” - Another
emotional realness ballad. I could listen to these all day. She
knocked this one out of the park. Score:
10
“I
Bet On You” - Lissie's voice
is like musical crack to which I have become addicted. The song is
OK, but her vocals sell it for me. Score: 7
“Cold
Fish” - The groove is heavy
on this one. I love it and I love the lyrics. The screeching at the
end left me a but put off, but overall a very nice track. The chorus
has a very “No New Tale To Tell” by Love and Rockets kind of vibe
– I dig it. Score: 8
“Can't
Take It Back” - I am so
loving the disco vibe of this track! Well, it got my fat ass moving
and grooving. Well played Lissie – well played. Score: 8
“Back
To Forever” - I don't think
Lissie could have gotten any more emotionally real than she does on
this track, but it was missing something.
I can't put my finger on it, but I just didn't connect with this one.
Score: 5
There are a few more tracks on
the album – stripped down version of songs I have already reviewed.
I didn't feel the need to rehash them.
Average
Track Score: 7.5. Would I
recommend this album for to buy? RUN DON'T WALK TO GET THIS
AMAZING ALBUM. A MUST BUY!
Escalader,
Jim
