Here is what I thought of Nine Inch
Nails' new album, “Hesitation Marks.” Remember – all scores are
out of a possible 10.
“The Eater of Dreams” - 53
seconds in length. An odd collections of squeaks and sounds. Did I
need this? No. Score: I am not going to score this – I
don't consider this a song.
“Copy of a” - Yes.
This track is why I love Nine Inch Nails. It has movement, excellent
beats, and most of all fantastic lyrics. I am a sucker for good
lyrics – and these are fabulous. Score: 9
“Came Back Haunted” - Another
rocker. Nice vocals, nice movement. The coda was a bit much for me.
Bit overall a decent NIN track. Score: 7
“Find My Way” - Decent
enough track. Moody and dark the song rolls along, but in this
instance the end justifies the means – for me. It wraps up nicely.
Score: 7
“All Time Low” - This
is a very funky track. It got my booty moving and my hips groovin'.
Call me crazy or call me a geek, but I think Trent may have sampled
some early Final Fantasy game music for this one. That's what I got.
This track needs to be about two minutes shorter. Score: 6
“Disappointed” - Quirky
– that's what this song is – quirky. Kind of filler, the song
goes on for far too long. I wish Trent would get back to rocking.
Score: 4
“Everything” - A
decent enough rocker. It just doesn't have the punch I was looking
for. It just kind of ended. Score: 5
“Satellite” - A
mid tempo track that is very forgetful. Nothing but filler. Score:
0
“Various Methods of Escape” -
Another forgetful track.
Filler. It seems like Trent has lost most of his anger and that
reflects in his music. Score: 2
“Running” - Ew.
This lo-fi track just annoys me. Nothing good here. Move along.
Score: 0
“I Would for You” - Nice
track. Nothing really THAT remarkable about it, but it was somewhat
enjoyable. Score: 6
“In Two” - Now
we are back on track. Dark, multi-layered and just plain fantastic.
More of this please. Score: 8
“While I'm Still Here” - Boring
and disjointed. Filler. I hate filler. Score: 1
“Black Noise” - This
instrumental track had something
about it, but it really isn't a song, so I will not score this one.
Sorry 'bout it.
There
are three more re-mixes on this album, but I won't rate them.
Average
track score: 4.6 – pretty
accurate. There were a couple of hits, but overall the album just
kind of left me annoyed. Would I buy this album? Probably
not.
Escalader,
Jim
