Here is what I thought
of Tyler Farr's new album, “Redneck Crazy.” Remember – all
scores are out of a possible 10 points.
“Dirty” -
Tyler's brand of country music
is refreshing. He sings about things that other country artists would
be scared to touch. This song for instance is about a girl that
doesn't care about anything fancy, she just wants to be with him. It
is a rather sweet song when I think about it. Score: 9
“Makes You Wanna
Drink” - Country rap. I am so
not a fan. But the chorus is nice. Score: 4
“Redneck Crazy”
- I really enjoyed this song.
The lyrics are top notch and Tyler's voice is fantastic. This is
fresh twist on the obligatory country cheating song. Score:
10
“Whiskey In My
Water” - This feels like a
filler song. The main verses didn't really speak to me, but the
chorus was fun. Score: 5
“Hot Mess” - Any
heterosexual man that can sing a song about a hot mess has my seal of
approval. The lyrics are what got me on this track and they are top
notch. A great groove and another standout vocal performance. Score:
10
“Hello Goodbye”
- I love a good country ballad
and this one does not disappoint. The lyrics are pretty well crafted
and Tyler's voice is on the better side of good if not a bit strained
and whiny. But overall a very nice breakup song. Score: 8
“Ain't Even
Drinkin'” - A fun song full
of clever lyrics and strong country melodies. While I may not go back
and listen to this one again, it is one of the stronger tracks on the
album. Score: 8
“Wish I Had A
Boat” - Despite the silly
aspect of the lyrics I actually liked this song. The beat is good and
the music made me tap my toes. Score: 7
“Chicks, Trucks,
And Beer” - One of my least
favorite songs on the album. Colt Ford's vocals just turned me off
and the whole vibe of the song made me wince. Score: 3
“Cowgirl” - Now
this is more up my alley. A nice ballad with strong lyrics and a nice
amount of twang. This song is basically a personal ad in song form. I
enjoyed the flow of this song very much. Score: 10
“Living With The
Blues” - Emotional realness -
just Tyler and a guitar. I love when singers use this technique. The
lyrics are good, but the combination of Tyler's voice with the soft
guitar was heavenly. Score: 7
Average Track Score:
7.4 Would I recommend this to
my friends? Actually I would.
Tyler is a breath of fresh air in the Country music scene and I am
excited to hear more from him.
Escalader,
Jim
