Here is what I thought
of Gretchen Wilson's new album, “Christmas In My Heart.” Remember
– all scores are out of a possible 10 points.
“Christmas In My
Heart” - Ooh Miss Gretchen! I
had no idea your voice was so soft and charming! I thought you were
all hard edge and tough girl. I am loving the sound of your voice on
this warm and fuzzy track! Score: 8
“Santa I've Been
Naughty” - I adore original
Christmas songs. They show initiative and don't bore me like some
traditional songs. I love the sexy vibe on this track – very much
in the vein of “Santa Baby.” Who knew Gretchen could pull of sex
kitten? I liked the vocals, but the music was a bit too rudimentary
for my taste. Score: 8
“Have Yourself A
Merry Little Christmas” - A
straightforward take on a traditional song. Nothing wrong with this
one, but nothing – save one high note – really caught my
attention. Score: 5
“If You See
Rudolph” - I don't think I
have ever heard a Christmas song that involves guns, but here it is –
and Gretchen makes it work. The swing music is a delight to my ears,
but it was the vocals that made me pay attention. Score: 7
“Nuttin' For
Christmas” - This is one of
my least favorite holiday songs. Mainly due to the fact of how broke
I am and I know I ain't getting anything for Christmas. That said,
this is also my least favorite track of this album. I was just turned
off by delivery and tone of this track. Score: 0
“Silent Night” -
Now we are talking – this is
one of my all time favorite Christmas songs. Gretchen serves up
heavenly realness with her mesmerizing vocals. This totally makes up
for the last track. Score: 10
“Have A Holly
Jolly Christmas” - Filler
track. An OK version of this song, but nothing really jumped out at
me to put me in the holiday mood. Score: 5
“The Christmas
Song” - Gretchen's voice
gives me life. She does a fabulous job on this Christmas classic and
I am sure to put it in my mix of Christmas songs this year. Score:
9
“I Want A
Hippopotamus For Christmas” - A
fun track – and Gretchen's vocals totally sold me on this song. I
can see so many drag queens doing this number for their holiday shows
– it is DQW. (Drag Queen Worthy) Score: 10
“Blue Christmas”
- Stick a fork in me I am done.
Gretchen slayed me with her rough edge bluesy vocals on this classic.
I am totally and forever in love with her and her voice. Don't kill
me for this, but I think I like the version better than Elvis'.
Score: 10
Average Track Score:
7.2 Would I recommend this to
my friends? Hell yes.
This is one of my favorite Christmas albums I have heard this year.
Escalader,
Jim
