Celine Dion - Loved Me Back To Life

Here is what I thought of Céline Dion's new album, “Loved Me Back To Life.” Remember – all scores are out of a possible 10 points.

Loved Me Back To Life” - I have to be honest. I am not crazy about this track. The arrangement seemed off. But I did like the chorus – full of sweeping vocals and dramatic music. Score: 6

Somebody Loves Somebody” - Vocally, this comes off as a playful song. The music is interesting enough and Céline does her best with the vocals, but this is just not a standout track. Score: 7

Incredible” - This song is incredibly boring. I didn't like much about this track. I really didn't care for Ne-Yo's vocals as Céline don't need no help – she is fabulous all by herself. Next. Score: 4

Water And A Flame” - I connected with Céline's vocals on this track. She was serving emotional realness and I got fully on board. I like this different kind of sound from her despite her channeling Anastacia. Score: 9

Breakaway” - This is what I expect from Céline – massive vocals, a fantastic arrangement, and that signature voice. A fantastic track from start to finish. I adore this track. Score: 10

Save Your Soul” - Filler track. The track falls on the better side of filler, but there is nothing that would make me go back to listen to this one again. I did like the funky music though – it made me shake my tushy. Score: 6

Didn't Know Love” - In this song Céline sings about how she didn't know love. I wish I didn't know this song. Boring from beginning to end – a complete waste of my time. Score: 0

Thank You” - Am I being punked? Another boring song with boring lyrics, boring vocals, and a boring arrangement. Score: 0

Overjoyed” - It is risky to do a cover of a legendary song. It is riskier to have the original artist perform on the track with you. In this case, the risk did not pay off. When Stevie Wonder kicked off this track a huge smile came across my face – his voice is so soothing and genuine. When Céline started singing, my smile quickly evaporated. Stevie completely out sung her on this track – but then how could he not? He is, after all, Stevie Wonder. Score: 6

Thankful” - One of the better tracks on the album. A great job on the vocals and this is the kind of arrangement I have come to expect. I can see some drag queens do this as a crowning number. Score: 8

At Seventeen” - Another cover – sigh. I will say that Céline's vocals did suit this song nicely, but the original version of this song is one of my favorites so Céline didn't have that much of a chance to get a rave from me. Score: 6

Always Be Your Girl” - Girl, you can't just put one big note on a song and expect it to be any good. I was as bored as you sounded on this underwhelming track. Score: 2

Unfinished Songs” - Well at least the vocals were nice. I have no idea what this song is about – at all. But as I said, the vocals were nice to hear. Score: 4

Average Track Score: 5.2 Would I recommend this to my friends? Absolutely not. What a disappointment of an album.

Escalader,
Jim
