Here
is what I thought of James Blunt's new album, “Moon Landing.”
Remember – all scores are out of a possible 10 points.
“Face
The Sun” - At first I was
wondering if this album is going to be full of wussy vocals. But for
some reason, I liked the vocals on this track and the rock rhythms
that kick in got me fully on board. Score: 7
“Satellites”
- The chorus is what sold me on
this track. The main verse vocals were just beige, but when the rock
kicks in, I go from boredom to satisfaction. Score: 5
“Bonfire
Heart” - This has radio hit
written all over it. What I love most about this song is the lyrics.
A well written song is easy to spot and this one is top shelf. James'
vocals work nicely with this song as well. Score: 10
“Heart
To Heart” - A nice upbeat
song. This is also another well written song. This song reminded me
of Paul Westerberg for some reason. Overall a nice track that I would
go back to again. Score: 8
“Miss
America” - This track grew on
me the more I listened to it. It has some deep lyrics and dark
melodies. A sleeper track, but one of my favorites. Score:
8
“The
Only One” - Ow. These lyrics
made my vagina – well, my mangina – hurt. I like a sensitive
song, but this one is a bit too sensitive. The vocals reminded me of
Maroon 5 which made my mangina hurt again. C'mon James, man up.
Score: 4
“Sun
On Sunday” - Normally, I am
all about emotional realness songs. This track however put me to
sleep and never gave me a reason to wake up. Score: 3
“Bones”
- Another made for radio hit.
This track picks up the pace with fun lyrics and a sweeping
arrangement. I can totally hear this on Y98 FM. Score: 9
“Always
Hate Me” - James, she may
always hate you, but I will always hate this song. The whole vibe and
vocal delivery just bored me tremendously. Score: 1
“Postcards”
- I liked the first four bars
of this song, but that is about it. While I am fond of ukulele's, the
one on this track made me laugh out loud. After it makes its
appearance the whole track jumps off the rails and never comes back.
Sigh. Score: 2
“Blue
On Blue” - Oh for fuck sake.
What a waste of a song. Not only was I bored with the music, I was
irritated with the lyrics. A pointless song to end an album. Score:
0
There
is an acoustic version of “Miss America” but I have already
reviewed the original and do not feel the need to review it again.
Average
Track Score: 5.2 Would I
recommend this album to my friends? No.
Escalader,
Jim
