Here is what I
thought of Scott Stapp's new album, “Proof Of Life.” Remember –
all scores are out of a possible 10 points.
“Slow Suicide”
- A very enjoyable hard rock track. Stapp's vocals are sharp and
the music is heavy – a deadly combination. Score: 9
“Who I Am” -
Another rocking track. Who is
telling you that you can't be yourself sweetie? You can be whoever
you want. The energy is blazing on this track, but the vocals come
off frantic. Score: 7
“Proof Of Life”
- I am on the fence about this
one. I liked the energy and the vocals, but the arrangement is messed
up. Score: 5
“New Day
Coming” - Filler track. The
lyrics are a bit too cheesy and the down beat tempo just bored me.
Score: 4
“Only One” -
The sensitive lyrics in the
track made my mangina hurt. I am all about being in touch with your
sensitive side, but this one was way to mushy. Score: 5
“Break Out” -
The chorus totally saves this
song from being crap. The main verses are OK at best, but the chorus
rocks. Score: 7
“Hit Me More”
- Headslap. The vocal delivery
of the main verses border on rap/singing and it gave me gas. The
chorus however was fun and got me rocking. Another case of the chorus
out rocking the main verses. Sigh. Score: 5
“Jesus Was A
Rockstar” - As an Atheist,
these lyrics fell on deaf ears. But I will say this, they are not the
best written lyrics. Some of them even made me laugh out loud. But I
did like the deep groove. Score: 6
“What Would
Love Do” - Ok, this track is
much more up my alley. Emotional realness in the lyrics and a
fabulous job with the vocals. Score: 9
“Crash” - I
should really like this song, but the lyrics came off a bit bogus and
they seemed reused from other songs. But the mood of the song got to
me which made me feel melancholy about the past. Score: 7
“Dying To Live”
- I thought this song was going
to be about anti-abortion, but the lyrics seem to be a put down to
Creed. Go figure. The music was lovely and the vibe was interesting.
Overall a very safe track. Score: 8
Average Track
Score: 6.6 Would I recommend
this to my friends? I don't think so.
I would tell them there are a few good tracks, but overall the album
is a pass.
Escalader,
Jim
