Editors - The Weight Of Your Love

Here is what I thought of Editors' album, “The Weight Of Your Love.” Remember – all scores are out of a possible 10 points.

The Weight” - This is a heavy song. Great guitar riffs, highly enjoyable lyrics, and a dark tone. I dig this track very much. Score: 9

Sugar” - A funky baseline, haunting vocals, and intriguing lyrics combine to make this an outstanding track. I was hypnotized from the first moment and will listen to this over and over again. Score 10

A Ton Of Love” - This is a rocker from start to finish that reads U2 to me. The chorus is fun, but the vocals are what sold me on this track. Score: 8

What Is This Thing Called Love” - The first ballad of the album. It is lovely and heart warming, but I didn't get the emotional realness I need from a ballad of this nature. The lyrics are the best part, but even they felt like the missed the mark just a bit. Plus, I really don't like falsetto vocals from a man. Score: 6

Honesty” - An odd song. Its down tempo and forgettable lyrics have an odd 80's feel. I love 80's music, but this track feels out of place. This song feels like filler and I just want to get on to the next track. Score: 4

Nothing” - Ok, you got me on this one. Another ballad with – you guessed it – emotionally real lyrics and vocals. The arrangement is heavenly, but it was the lyrics that cracked the shell over my heart. Score: 9

Formaldehyde” - Another filler track. The lyrics gave me nothing. But I just love the lead singer's voice. In the end, I can live forever without hearing this song again. Score: 4

Hyena” - Interesting music is what caught my ear on this track. The lyrics really didn't make that much sense to me, but the vocals are pretty sensational. A nice track, but the lyrics don't do it any favors. Score: 8

Two Hearted Spider” - Girl, I am spent. This ballad took my heart on a unreal emotional journey. There is nothing I don't love about this track. The lyrics are gorgeous, the vocals ripped out my heart, and the music is impeccable. Score: 10

The Phone Book” - I hate to say it but, the vocals on this downbeat track bored me. They seemed contrived and just plain boring. The music caught my ear and the lyrics were OK. Overall, this track is just another filler track. Score: 5

Bird Of Prey” - This could be one of the best written songs of the album. As I listened, I was drawn in especially by those haunting lyrics once again. I liked this song, but I didn't love this song. Score: 7

Average Track Score: 7.3 Would I recommend this to my friends? Probably. Despite the amount of filler on this album, the high points are very high and memorable.

Jim
